Friendship

Friendship

Students made friendship bracelets.  We discussed how we are forever connected as friends.  We bring the beauty of our own lives to our friendships and share our lives with others.  This strengthens our friendships and relationships and enriches our lives for the better.

Lessons on Friendship

This is a lesson we used to tie in friendship from last month with the emotion anger for this month.

We started with an anchor chart where they wrote what makes them angry. Then, they filled out an anger map where they drew a picture of what their face looks like when they are angry. They were to think about what being angry can accomplish (or not accomplish) and write down ways they can handle it better.  We then watched the Pixar short "Partly Cloudy". It was a story (without words) about friendship and how miscommunication (or lack there of) can cause us to make assumptions and get angry over silly things or angry over something that wasn't really a problem in the first place.  The cloud would do its best to make baby animals for the stork to take, but the animals would turn out violent and different than what the other clouds were making. This was wearing the stork out but the cloud really couldn't help it. Sometimes, our friends make us mad because their "best" may not seem like they are giving it. The stork once went to talk to another cloud, without telling his cloud what he was doing..this made the cloud angry/sad, thinking he had left him for a "better" cloud. IN reality, the stork was getting some gear to protect him from the not so cuddly baby animals..because he wanted to be a good friend and still help that cloud, no matter how difficult it was.

Encouraging Others

Students are learning how to encourage others.  Fifth grade students made cards for the younger grades to help encourage them on I-STEP.  Cards were left on the student's desks the day of I-STEP.
